Beauty Standards are a one of the most dangerous powers in the subconscious of modern America. Many people deny the existence of beauty standards, pressures, or ideals, much less that they pose a potential threat to the well being of the women in the American society. Most of our social society is a “go with the flow- don’t think about what’s happening” type of society, so social constructs or underlying issues are not generally discussed. Beauty standards are a social construct of specific ideals set up for the people, most frequently the women, in this society that create stigmas and pressures of how a woman should look in order to be perceived as and rightfully feel beautiful. Many of the reasons why people don’t generally pay attention to or try to stop these standards come from not understanding the concepts that lie within general ideas. By analyzing the cause, effects, and existing solutions of beauty standards in our society, we can further society’s understanding on the issue and become more successful in creating a healthier state for the women in our society to exist in.
